Can Money Buy Happiness? Can money buy happiness? Different people have different opinions. Some think yes, while others hold the opposite. It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. However, it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. It is a common view that money is the root of all evil. The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable. So, money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it is used. If we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone to happiness l Although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.
吸烟与健康-Smoking And Health Smoking And Health Today smoking is a widespread habit ali over the world. Not only the old, the youth, but also middle school students have been engaged in smoking. Many of them think that smoking is a smart symbol. However, smoking is harmful to one’s ,health. It contributes a lot of lung cancer, from which many people have died in the past years. It can also cause many other diseases. In a word, if you smoke, you do have a much greater chance of losing your health. Furthermore, scientific research shows that smoking is not only harmful to smokers themselves, but also a threat to public health, especially to women and children. Therefore, many countries have made laws forbidding smokers to smoke m public places such as cinemas, stations, hospitals, and so on Giveup smoking! If you don’t smoke, don’t start. Give upsmoking for the sake of your health, for the sake of your family, and for the sake of the whole world.
环境与发展-Development and the Environment Development and the Environment It is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present-day world. Land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. Waste gases poison the air we breathe. The rivers and lakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. It is probably no exaggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the existence of mankind itself. Some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. But I do not think that this argument is valid. After all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution? There is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. The key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. Both governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.
Our world is rapidly changing. Technology and economicdevelopment are perhaps the two most visible factors causingthis . In Chongqing we drive across the new bridges linkingformerly distant locations. We use electronic gadgets thatallow us to perform tasks quicker and more efficiently thanever before. Who would have imagined communicating viaa blog just a few years ago? However, the impact of technologyand development on our lives is increasingly being overshadowedby something that is in some ways harder to pin down butwhose enormous impact is undeniable – climate change.
Climate change is truly a global issue that impacts on allindividuals regardless of nationality, gender or wealth. It isshaping our world in ways we sometimes struggle to terms of our daily lives, it can seem hard to identify whatchanges result from climate change and as a result it issometimes ignored. However, in terms of our planet’s “lifecycle” it is happening extremely quickly. Arctic ice andglaciers are melting, desertification is speeding up andmajor floods are increasingly impacting on people in low-lyingareas.
Climate change is already impacting on our planet andwill increasingly affect our behaviour. Around the worldpeople are beginning to look to make “greener” choicesin their everyday lives. They are attempting to reducetheir “carbon footprint” by travelling in more sustainableways [given China’s size, increasing middle class andrising wealth, is this the right argument?], reducing theamount of food waste they produce and purchasing moreenergy-efficient goods and services. Even our languagesare being shaped by climate change! Who had evenheard of a “carbon footprint” until relatively recently?
Given the importance of climate change, I am delightedto be launching this blog. It reflects the importance thatChongqing attaches to this issue. It also reflects theimportance attached to climate change by the UKGovernment and the British Consulate General. Our twoGovernments are engaged in wide-ranging activitiesin Chongqing and SW China to address the challengesposed by climate change – too many to list on thisblog! Major activities have included seminars onchanging policies to reduce carbon emissions; examining“green” building techniques; and visits to the UKby officials from SW China to examine solar powertechnology. Chongqing’s “Car Free Day” at the sametime as over 100 other Chinese cities was anexcellent example of an activity that promoted alow carbon lifestyle.
The UK is keen to continue this work and developeven closer links with Chongqing. There is much we canlearn from each other. The lessons we both learn indealing with our local problems undoubtedly contributeto body of knowledge on how to tackle this globalchallenge. I very much hope this blog will play its partin raising awareness and generating debate. I hope itwill spark creative ideas and will act as a catalyst forchange. To bring about this change we need to makepersonal choices, and in writing this blog today I havemade a new choice. I have decided to ensure that Iwill increasingly walk to my appointments in the JiefangBei district in order to reduce my carbon footprint. Onmy own my efforts will make only a small difference, but by acting together we really can make a can you do differently?
英语演讲稿围绕“Talk with the World, share our dreams!”
Talk with the World, Share our DreamsGood morning, everyone. Today I would like to introduce to you the theme ‘Talk with the World, Share our Dreams’. It is common knowledge that fascinating inventions and thriving technology result from an opulent collaboration of humans’ inspiration and intelligence. Globalization in recent decades further accelerates the phenomenon. This is where we learn that a widespread, cooperative effort drastically surpasses an individual’s influence, and recognize the significance of sharing our dreams to reach a higher ground than commonly perceived to be the Second World War, in an exasperating attempt to defeat Hitler and his German troops, and in pursuit of possessing a commanding, fearsome nuclear weapon, the United States initiated the Manhattan Project, consulting the celebrated scientist Albert Einstein and recruiting numerous engineers, physicists, and mathematicians to assemble a group with remarkable intellectual strength in competition with Germany. The ultimate success of this project is through the contributions of many tremendously gifted engineers putting their heads together in favor of another cutting-edge technology – the memorable birth of the atomic bomb, in order to fulfill the dream of world peace. This unforgettable yet outstanding example demonstrates the importance of bringing the world together. Through communication, people cooperate and endeavor in a subsequently equivalent direction, and struggle to bring forth a better, sustainable , a well-developed country bearing a prosperous economy at present, commenced and developed countless international relationships to encourage an abundance of foreign investment. Establishing a little communication and cooperation with the outside world ultimately prevents the flourishing country from running towards the same direction the solitary North Korea has previously headed. This secures the argument that talking with the world and sharing our dreams lead to immense enhancement and fulfillment of similar countries and individual governments have acknowledged the increasingly serious problem of climate change in recent years. Global warming attacks the planet with mounting effect, heats the atmosphere and radically raises the global mean temperature. The Kyoto Protocol in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change marks the beginning of a universal, comprehensive proposal to remediate global warming. Uniting different nations, partnering masterminds, and amalgamating various technologies brings us closer to achieving our dreams and relieving the spotted may be comprised of different races, genders, cultures, countries, and countless types of unthinkable differentiation blended with countless types of outrageous, unreasonable discrimination, but one thing remains true – ‘Talk with the World, Share our Dreams’, with history, these seemingly inconsequential words are wisdom in literal forms. ‘Talk with the World, Share our Dreams’, and may we all march towards a better future.
